It was billed as a mini reunion but it was packed with a lot of fun food and renewal of old friendships and the making of new ones. Our 2 coordinators, Barb (Zimm) Eagan and Renee Tyron went all out to make it a very enjoyable and memorable experience. We started out on Friday evening with a very warm meet and greet at Zimms house.
Sat morning started with coffee, croissants and donuts at Zimm’s house and then a caravan to Creech AFB for our tour of the MQ-9 Reaper (drone) unit stationed there. It was really cool to get up close and personal with these praying mantis looking things. We were given a briefing by 3 ground crew specialist followed by a question and answer session. We were fortunate enough to be there when 2 of the bomb loading crews were having an up loading competition (inert bombs). As our group left the drone hanger and headed back to our cars we stopped to watch the drones doing touch and go’s.
Our afternoon was just as exciting as our morning had been with our tour of the Thunderbirds. We were met at the entrance to the Thunderbird hanger by 2 very sharp looking enlisted members to the team and they escorted us in and gave us a briefing, and film, a tour of the Thunderbird museum and then out to one of the F- 16 aircraft where we climbed the ladder to look in the cockpit and a thousand pictures were taken.
The afternoon’s activities continued with a very interesting tour of the ( Barb, you will have to fill in the blanks here, I do not know the official name of the place where you all went from here).
Friday evening was another informal get together at Zimm’s house and the main topic of the conversations was the days activities.
Sat afternoon was a free day for everyone to go out and explore Las Vegas and just kick back and relax. Our reunion culminated with another get together at Zimm’s house with food, refreshments, live music, dancing and the celebration of Renee’s birthday.
All under the stars and with the view of Las Vegas at night this was a prefect end to not a mini reunion but a spectacular reunion! – Jim Wines
