We have added a new section here on our website called Stories at usafcombatcamera.org.
What and Why are PROFILES? I will address the WHY first: I personally have known and worked with many fellow combat camera people whose accomplishments in APS/APCS/AAVS and AirCCS are notable and should be documented and not fade into history. From that realization the idea of placing PROFILES of these individuals on our webpage took shape. I floated the idea with Jim Pearson, our webmaster, Jose Lopez, Steve McGill, Col Jim Elmer, Col Dale Boggie, Maj Jay Sedlik’s widow Bernice and a number of other retired and active duty members of our group.
I was pleased to hear that all of them thought it was a good idea, so we have posted our first, STORY, Col Jim Elmer, on the website. Hopefully we will have many more to post soon.
WHAT is a STORY: It is not a biography; those tend to be boring and fail to capture the personality of the individual? It should be conversational, stories about growing up, joining the military, getting married, and anecdotal stories of memorable experiences in our career field. Some photos, no more then three, would enhance the PROFILE. Candidates for PROFILES are anyone, military or civilian, who served in our combat camera organizations. Some will be members who have passed, retired or still working.
Our purpose for the PROFILES is quite simple: We need to document the many fantastic, creative, courageous people with whom we have worked. I am personally working on a PROFILE for my good friend Doug Wood who passed ten years ago. His career is unbelievable and deserved to be remembered. I’m sure many of you have stories about friends or yourself that should be documented.
