Daniel (Dan) Christopher Doherty passed away in Sumter SC on May 13, 2024. Dan was born on April 17,1939 in Montreal Canada. He and his family moved to Philadelphia when Dan was 12 years old. Dan was a proud member of the United States Air Force for 20 years. He was a 1975 graduate of Syracuse University’s Military Photojournalism Program.
His Air Force classmates were Michael Creen, Paul Harrington and Paul Margosian. After graduation he worked, until he retired from active duty, as an Air Force photojournalist covering Air Force events worldwide. After his active duty retirement, he worked as a civilian photojournalist for the Air Force Reserve Command, retiring for the last time in October 2003.
Dan was well known throughout Facebook and the Air Force Public Affairs community for his unique artistic renderings of Air Force photographs.
Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Paula, his brothers, John, Stephen and Mike and his parents, John and Josephine Doherty. He is survived by his wife Christine and daughters, Crystal Emery (Roger) and Maria Cannon and sister, Megan Doherty Slonicki and her family in Irvine, CA. Dan was also a loving stepfather to Natasha Roy and Natalie McGann. His blended family consisted of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces.
Dan will be missed greatly by his family and friends. His final wishes were that he not have a conventional funeral but that he be cremated, and his ashes taken to Prince Edward Island for burial.
