Dennis J. Floyd died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the age of 68.
Dennis was born April 19, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Leon and Angelina Floyd. He was raised and educated in the Oakland area, graduating from St. Mary’s College High School in 1968.
Shortly after graduation Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged 12 years later as a staff sergeant. He was employed as an air traffic controller in California and Nevada during his 20-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aviation and photography were passions of Dennis. A resident of Lompoc since 2013, he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 25 years Liz Floyd; daughter Christine Floyd of Beaumont, California; stepdaughter and her husband Lindsay and Don Schroeder of Lompoc; stepson and his husband David Vaughn and Jason Montoya of San Diego, California; grandsons Alex and Aidan Schroeder; and brothers Alan Floyd of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gary Floyd of Henderson, Nevada.
The graveside funeral service with military honors was held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 2pm in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
