John Evans

On the 9th day of March, 2016 John A. Evans passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones, due to a battle with Vietnam-induced Agent Orange Lung/Brain Cancer. John enjoyed camping with his grandsons, range shooting, reading, and making unique birdhouses. He was an active member of First American Lutheran Church, Oconto and enjoyed washing dishes for benefit and funeral dinners with the special women of First American. John graduated from Appleton Sr. H.S. in May 1964. He volunteered for the US Air Force as a combat Aerial Photographer for 8 ½ yrs, flying 107 overseas tours to Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. He was awarded among other decorations, 5 air medals and 2 Air Force commendation medals during 3 combat tours. He served with the 600th photo squadron at Tan Son Nhut Airbase, Saigon Vietnam and was honorably discharged in March, 1973. He attended and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UWGB in 1975. Subsequently attended and graduated from the Univ. of WI Law School in Madison with a Juris. Dr., degree in 1978. He was employed as an owner, partner, and associate at a number of law firms in Brown and Oconto Counties for more than 40 years and served as an instructor at the UWGB as an Adjunct Professor. John ended his career as the DA for Oconto Cty, from 2010 to 2013 and Oconto City Atty. from 2015 to 2016. (written by John A. Evans).

He is survived by his “beautiful bride” of 19yrs.,Cynthia Lex-Evans, 3 special step-daughters, Amy Resch (fiancé Brian Wojtun); Chrissy (Josh) Carlson; Jessica Blom (Josh Burkhardt) and three special grandsons – Caydn, Owen and Alec Carlson; 2 sons, Ron and Matthew Evans; daughter Dawn (Brian) Phillipi, and granddaughter, Courtney; one sister, Mary Collins; mother in-law, Alice Lex and 2 brother in-laws, and 5 sister in-laws.

The family will received relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, March 14, 2016. Visitation continued on Tuesday, March 15 from 10 to 11 AM at First American Lutheran Church, Oconto. Funeral services were conducted 11 AM Tuesday at the church with the Rev.
