Photographic Find in Tyler, Texas

I was out attending a photo workshop in Tyler & Longview, Texas photographing MiG 23’s and 17’s and the group stopped by the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum, Tyler Pounds Airport, Tyler, Texas the “City of Roses”

They had the attached display on Lt. Elmer Dixson a local resident who during WWII served in the 3rd Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, 73rd Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force.

 

Lt. Elmer Dixson, Tyler, Texas, native Elmer Dixson was a U.S. Army Air Force photographer that captured images of bombing targets from high above. He captured pre and post-strike images of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Lt. Elmer Dixson’s uniform and actual photographs (L) unofficial “Buzz” job by a B-29 at 1,500’ on August 28th & 30th, 1945 of the Tokyo area, the Imperial Palace, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki the day of the surrender. The right two photo’s (Top) is a pre-strike photo (Bottom) is a post-strike photo of Hiroshima.
